DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 AM CHST...2100 UTC...the center of Typhoon Trami was located near Latitude 18.2 degrees North and Longitude 131.6 degrees East. Trami is moving west-northwest at 14 mph. Trami is expected to maintain this direction the next couple of days, but its forward speed will gradually slow this afternoon and evening, coming to a near halt Tuesday and Wednesday. Trami will eventually resume forward motion to the west-northwest Thursday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 140 mph and Trami is forecast to continue intensifying through tonight, possibly becoming a super typhoon this afternoon.
Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 60 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 195 miles north of the center, and up to 160 miles south of the center.
