Discussion and outlook ---------------------- At 400 AM CHST...1800 UTC...the center of Typhoon Jelawat was located near Latitude 18.5 North and Longitude 144.5 East. Typhoon Jelawat is moving toward the east at 10 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with a slight decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds remain at 75 mph. Typhoon Jelawat is forecast to weaken through tonight.
Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 40 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 200 miles to the north and up to 140 miles to the south.
