Discussion and outlook ---------------------- At 100 AM CHST...1500 UTC...the center of Typhoon Jelawat is located near Latitude 18.6 North and Longitude 142.8 East. Typhoon Jelawat is moving toward the east at 10 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with a slight decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 75 mph. Typhoon Jelawat is forecast to weaken and may become a tropical storm later today.
Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 40 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 200 miles to the north and up to 140 miles to the south.
