Discussion and outlook ---------------------- At 400 PM CHST...0600 UTC...the center of Typhoon Jelawat was located near Latitude 18.8 North and Longitude 141.1 East. Typhoon Jelawat is moving toward the northeast at 14 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the east-northeast with a decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds have diminished to 100 mph. Typhoon Jelawat is weakening, and this trend is forecast to continue through Sunday. Jelawat could be downgraded to a tropical storm within the next 24 hours.
Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 30 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 110 miles.
