Discussion and outlook ---------------------- At 100 AM CHST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Jelawat was located near latitude 15.3 degrees north and longitude 136.5 degrees east...moving east at 6 mph. Jelawat is expected to resume a more northeast course with little change in forward speed today through Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased slightly to 70 mph. Jelawat is forecast to intensify slowly, and is expected to become a typhoon later this morning.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 145 miles northeast of the center, and up to 115 miles southwest of the center.
