DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Saola was located near latitude 19.8 degrees North and longitude 130.9 degrees East...moving northwest at 14 mph. Tropical Storm Saola is expected to continue northwest today, turn north on Saturday, then recurve to the northeast Sunday south of Japan.
Maximum sustained winds remain at 50 mph. Saola is expected to stay around the same intensity today then resume slow intensification tonight, and may briefly become a typhoon on Saturday night before starting to weaken Sunday night.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 130 miles north of the center and up to 100 miles south of the center.
