Maximum sustained winds...50 mph Present movement...west-northwest...300 degrees at 13 mph.
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Saola was located near latitude 18.1 degrees North and longitude 132.0 degrees East...moving west-northwest at 13 mph. Tropical Storm Saola is expected to continue in this direction through Friday and then turn to the north Friday night and northeast over the weekend. Little change in forward speed is expected the next several days.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 50 mph. Saola is expected to resume a slow intensification tonight and the next few days, possibly becoming a typhoon briefly on Saturday before beginning to weaken on Sunday as it transitions into a mid-latitude low.
Tropical storm force winds extend out to 175 miles from the center.
