Maximum sustained winds...60 mph Present movement...Northwest...310 degrees at 13 mph.
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 AM ChST...2100 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Saola was located near latitude 17.6 degrees North and longitude 133.1 degrees East...moving northwest at 13 mph. Tropical Storm Saola is expected to maintain this general motion through tonight, then curve toward the north by Saturday and the northeast by Sunday. Saola is forecast to pass just south of Japan over the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph. Slow intensification is expected through Friday afternoon, when Saola is forecast to possibly become a typhoon before starting to weaken on Sunday as it begins the process of transitioning from a tropical cyclone to a mid-latitude low.
Tropical storm force winds extend out to 200 miles from the center.
