DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Saola was located near latitude 14.8 degrees North and longitude 134.8 degrees East...moving west-northwest at 23 mph. Tropical Storm Saola is expected to follow a northwest track with decreasing forward speed through Friday, then recurve to the northeast and pass south of Japan over the weekend. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 45 mph. Little change in intensity is expected through tonight, but then Saola is forecast to intensify slowly the next few days, and may become a typhoon late Friday or Saturday. Tropical storm force winds extend out to 225 miles northeast of the center, and up to 115 miles northwest of the center.
