Maximum sustained winds...45 mph Present movement...West-northwest...300 degrees at 13 mph.
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1000 AM ChST...0000 UTC...the poorly-defined center of Tropical Storm 27W was located near latitude 10.9 degrees North and longitude 143.2 degrees East...moving northwest at 13 mph. Tropical Storm 27W is expected to turn to a northwest track today through Wednesday with an increase in forward speed. Tropical Storm 27W is near its closest approach to Guam, and will be moving into the Philippine Sea tonight and Wednesday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 45 mph. 27W is forecast to intensify slowly the next few days. Tropical storm force winds extend out up to 175 miles from the center.
There is still considerable uncertainty on the exact track and intensity of 27W as it passes between Guam and Fais this afternoon. Residents of Fais and Ulithi in Yap State should closely monitor the progress of Tropical Storm 27W.
NEXT ADVISORY ------------- The next scheduled advisory will be issued by the National Weather Service at 200 PM this afternoon, followed by an intermediate advisory at 500 PM.
