DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 PM ChST...0900 UTC...the eye of Super Typhoon Lan was located near latitude 23.1 degrees North and longitude 132.2 degrees East. Lan is moving northeast at 13 mph. Lan is expected to make a slight turn to the north and increase in speed over the next 24 hours, before resuming a more northeastward track as it heads toward Japan.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 150 mph. Super Typhoon Lan has begun a gradual weakening trend.
Typhoon Lan has a large wind field, with typhoon force winds extending outward up to 70 miles from the center. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 345 miles from the center.
