DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the eye of Super Typhoon Lan was located near latitude 22.0 degrees North and longitude 131.4 degrees East. Lan is moving northeast at 9 mph. Lan is expected to make a slight turn to the north and increase in speed over the next 24 hours, before resuming a more northeastward track as it heads toward Japan.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 155 mph. Super Typhoon Lan is forecast to begin a gradual weakening trend.
Typhoon Lan has a large wind field, with typhoon force winds extending outward up to 60 miles from the center. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 310 miles from the center.
