DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 PM ChST...0900 UTC...the center of Typhoon Lan was located near latitude 20.1 degrees North and longitude 130.2 degrees East. Lan is moving north at 10 mph.  A slow turn to the northeast is expected the next few days, taking Lan east of Okinawa Saturday night, and near the main islands of Japan Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 105 mph. Intensification is expected through Saturday, followed by a weakening trend on Sunday.
Typhoon Lan has a very large wind field, with typhoon force winds extending outward up to 65 miles from the center in the eastern semicircle and about 50 miles in the western semicircle. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 220 miles in the eastern semicircle and 185 miles in the western semicircle.
