DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 PM ChST...0300 UTC...the center of Typhoon Lan was located near latitude 15.8 degrees North and longitude 130.4 degrees East. Lan is moving northwest at 12 mph and is expected to gradually turn toward the north through Friday afternoon, then to the northeast on Saturday. This track would bring Lan east of Okinawa, Japan on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 75 mph. Typhoon Lan is forecasted to resume intensification this evening, then starting a slow weakening trend late this weekend.
Typhoon force winds extend eastward up to 45 miles and westward up to 35 miles from the center. Tropical storm force winds extend eastward up to 160 miles and westward up to 140 miles from the center.
