DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Lan was located near latitude 10.6 North and longitude 132.4 degrees East. Lan is moving slowly northeast at 3 mph, and is expected to turn to a north-northwest heading today through Friday at an increased forward speed. This track will take Lan away from Yap and Palau.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 65 mph. Lan will continue to intensify over the next few days, and should become a typhoon later today.
Tropical storm force winds extend out up to 120 miles southwest of the center, and up to 90 miles northeast of the center.
NEXT ADVISORY ------------- The next scheduled advisory will be issued by the National Weather Service at 800 AM this morning.
