Interests in the eastern Azores should monitor the progress of Ophelia. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Ophelia was located near latitude 30.5 North, longitude 35.6 West. Ophelia is drifting north-northeastward around 2 mph (4 km/h). A slow northeastward motion is expected to begin later today, followed by a faster east-northeastward motion on Friday and Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km).
