DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM AST (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Jose was located near latitude 27.1 North, longitude 69.5 West. Jose is moving toward the northeast near 6 mph (9 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue overnight. A turn toward the east and southeast is expected on Tuesday, followed by a turn toward the south on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Slight weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km).
