Florida’s Severe Weather Awareness Week

Next week (Mon-Fri) is Florida's Severe Weather Awareness Week. The annual,
statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Thursday, February 27 this year.
The Routine Weekly Test message that our office typically sends on NOAA Weather
Radio each Wednesday between 11 am and noon, and again between 600-800 pm, will
NOT be conducted on Wednesday, February 26, but will be used to send the Tornado
Drill at 1010 am on Thursday, February 27 (as a Routine Weekly Test).

The NWS encourages schools, business, SKYWARN members and individuals to test receipt
of the Tornado Drill message via NOAA Weather Radio next week.

Also, a different weather hazard will be highlighted each day next week (via NWS
Melbourne Public Information Statements, NOAA Weather Radio, Social Media and
webpage). Below are the daily hazards which will be highlighted:

Monday: Lightning
Tuesday: Marine Hazards and Rip Currents
Wednesday: Tornadoes and Thunderstorms
Thursday: Hurricanes and Flooding
Friday: Temperature Extremes and Wildfires
